People today rely too much on technology. Technology is to replace most of what we can do so we won’t have to deal with it in any way. Sure, when it comes to crop planting or delivering packages faster, that makes a lot of sense, but when it comes to the human mind it is yet to be proven somehow that the pros are outperforming the cons in any given aspect. What do I mean?
The brain is a muscle of a sort, a tool to develop and exercise daily, and most of us are letting it run amok without control and without understanding the damage that it’s doing to our lives. You can (and should) develop this tool to do whatever you need from it in your daily life, it’s the most important tool we have in our toolbox but we lack the understanding of how to use it.
This tool doesn’t forget anything, it has no capacity limitation for knowledge and cannot get tired just because you fed it too much information over your lifetime. True, if you feed it too much information per day or in a short period of time it will get tired and will need some time to recuperate, but the next day or after it rested enough it can go on again.
People tend to develop these misconceptions about their brain or this tool that has no basis in the real world but once they develop these beliefs they become true for them and that’s usually the end of it. “Oh I’m not good with numbers”, “I can’t remember anything”, “I’m not smart enough for that”, “I have ADD/ADHD and can’t…”, you can fill in the blanks. The list goes on…
Now, here are some news for these people, all of that isn’t true, these are just excuses for things you don’t want to do or to make yourself small because that’s how you were taught, it’s only what you think to be true.
So nowadays we have smartphones with us all day long, right? Naturally, we rely on these devices to remember everything for us and to help us do things that we “can’t” do ourselves. It is so widely used and believed to be true (that you need these devices to help you remember everything) that if I aught to tell you that it’s simply not so you won’t even believe me at this point.
Your brain can do it all.
So many studies were established on the brain and we’re still not close to understanding the vast majority of this part of us. Studies, and also individual people, have shown that you can enhance your memory, your information processing, change your automatic reactions to situations, enhance your ability to perceive faster and learn much faster, and you know what? Age has nothing to do with it.
Take a young 25 years old today, an average person in the beginning of their lives, for example. He or she will rely on their smartphone to do everything for them rather than taking the time to explore themselves or their personal tools. They think becoming a good YouTuber is an asset or knowing how to paint their nails better makes them a celebrity but they forget that in all reality they have no idea how to really use their assets because, basically, they were not taught to recognize them to begin with, and I don’t blame them for it.
While more and more apps are released for our smartphones to help us to cope with the world around us, part of the process of of being able to cope better with this world is going through the process that your smartphone simply cannot help you with. It’s this lack of understanding that makes people rely more and more on their smartphones to help them with their memory, learning, and developing their personal skills and assets. What if instead of downloading an app to remind you to do this or that you take the time to teach yourself how to concentrate your brain and how to quiet it down? I guarantee you it will do more over time than just one app. What if you teach yourself to remember everything that you need, it’s possible, if it’s important enough to you.
Once you’ve learned how to take real advantage of this valuable, yet forgotten, tool of yours you’d be amazed at how well you can do everything else that you thought you’re simply not good at! Yes, it will take some time and, yes, it will take some effort but you’ll be grateful to yourself when you see the difference.
